Four different oval shapes create the 60 bungalow offices of 4 different sizes, that are scattered around the garden built with 4 feet of soil on top of the parking slab, burying the bungalows down to the table height.
The transparent curved walls allow 360º horizontal views of the plants, giving the feeling to be working among nature. Conceived as a new model for creative nomadic workspace, Second Home Hollywood will offer individual office pods submerged in shared landscape program that promotes wandering, exploration and the cross pollination of ideas between tenants. An intricate network of paths activates the entire property with Courtyards, cafes and informal gathering spaces positioned strategically at busy nodal points. The building also accommodates an event and conference hall. Ultimately, Walter P Moore’s creativity enabled the team to preserve an historically important structure and convert an under-used parking lot into a healthy and lush urban working environment unlike anything else in Los Angeles. The diverse LA arts, design, and corporate communities have collectively adopted Second Home Hollywood for co-working and special events, and the project has won numerous awards for its spectacular design.

Additionally, Second Home acts as a social hub where guests can network with an open-to-the-public restaurant, roof deck, and outdoor terrace as well as access to unique resources such as a bookshop, auditorium, recording studio, and post-production editing facility. I find the symbiosis between urban and natural environments incredibly appealing and a rising trend in the world’s greatest cities. I idealize a utopic metropolis as a habitat for humans and countless other species and which could not be distinguished apart from a forest as viewed from space.
